Walking in the Spirit

February 3, 2021

1. The Possession and The Command
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ”
Ephesians 5:18-21 NIV

2. The sacrifice

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20 NIV

3. The practice/discipline

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. ”
Romans 10:17 NIV

“for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”
1 John 5:4-8 NIV

Review:
We have been possessed with the Spirit, therefore, the Spirit filled life is available.

We have been commanded to walk in the Spirit, therefore, the Spirit filled life is obedience.

We have been freed from our flesh, therefore, sacrificial living is achievable.

We have been given our faith that is fed by the word, therefore, daily intake of the word makes the Spirit filled life probable.
